COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Juniors AJ Lee and Nick Dunn both notched two-hit games, but Illinois edged the Maryland baseball team, 4-2, in a rubber game Sunday at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium.

The Terrapins (15-17, 3-3 Big Ten) trailed after four, but took a 2-1 lead after six. Illinois (19-8, 6-3 Big Ten) would then score one in the seventh and two in the eighth to take the win. Maryland starter Hunter Parsons tossed five and two thirds innings and struck out seven.

Parsons opened his outing retiring the first six batters of the game, and ran into trouble only in the fourth. Illinois grabbed a run on a bases loaded walk, but the Fruitland, Md., native worked out of the jam.

Maryland put runners in scoring position in three of the first five innings, but did not score until the sixth. Lee opening that inning with a single before Dunn followed with one of his own. Lee came in to score on that play after Jack Yalowitz bobbled the ball in right field. After Kevin Biondic walked, Taylor Wright advanced the runners with a sac bunt and Marty Costes was intentionally walked. Randy Bednar followed with a strikeout, but Ryan Thompson plunked Richie Schiekofer to force in a run.

Illinois came through on chances to score in the seventh and eighth to make the game 4-2. The Terps stranded six runners in the final three frames, including the bases loaded in the eighth. Mike Vasturia took the loss in relief as he walked the go-ahead run to begin the eighth before being removed.

Dunn has now reached base in 19 consecutive games.
