
Santiago Competing at IAAF World U20 Championships

Tampere, Finland -- Rising sophomore Xahria Santiago is representing her home country of Canada in the IAAF World U20 Championships this week, competing in the 400m hurdles.
On Wednesday, Santiago won her first round heat, posting a mark of 58.09, the best time in her heat and the second best time overall in the U20 competition. On Thursday in the semifinal round, Santiago ran an even better time, posting a 57.55 to advance to the final round tomorrow.
The Ajax, Ontario native earned a podium finish in the Pan Am U20 competition last July and will compete on an even larger stage at this year's world competition. The 2018 championships will host over 1400 athletes from roughly 150 teams.

This past season, Santiago had an impressive freshman season. The hurdler earned All-Big Ten honors and qualified for the NCAA East Prelims, while posting the second-best 400m hurdle time in Maryland history, with a time of 56.69.
