COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Each week during the 2018-19 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the
Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week. This week's
Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week is
Taylor Mikesell of the Maryland women's basketball team.
Freshman
Taylor Mikesell played well beyond just her 14th and 15th career games in leading the ninth-ranked Terrapins to a pair of wins over teams in the top half of the league. She led the Terps with 16.5 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds per game this week. She shot 52 percent from the field and 47 percent from outside the arc with seven threes made. At Nebraska, she hit four threes and scored 7 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter to seal the road win. Against Michigan Saturday, she led the Terrapins with 17 points, 10 of them in the Terps' late third quarter push that went into the fourth quarter to seal the win. She added five points in the Terps' key 18-4 run that led them to the win. On the defensive end, she held Michigan's best shooter, Nicole Munger, to 0-5 from outside the arc, 3-11 from the floor and 6 points, which was below her average of 11 points per game.
