COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland baseball program's 2019 Leadoff Banquet, scheduled for Saturday February 9th at 6 p.m., will feature an alumni panel that includes former Terps Eric Milton, Mark Ciardi, Justin Maxwell, Kevin Smith, Jeff Schaefer and Jimmy Reed. The event will take place at the College Park Marriott Hotel & Conference Center and is the official kickoff of Maryland's 2019 season, which begins Feb. 15 against Campbell in Conway, S.C.

Eric Milton - Played in three seasons at Maryland (1994-1996) before being drafted in the first round of the 1996 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees. Went on to play 11 MLB seasons with four different teams and was named an All-Star with the Minnesota Twins in 2001. He tossed a no-hitter with the Twins in 1999. Is the father of
Kody Milton, who is entering his freshman season with the Terps.
Mark Ciardi - Pitched in two seasons at Maryland (1981, 1983) and was drafted in the 15th round of the 1983 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. Ciardi made his Major League debut for the Brewers in 1987. Following his playing career he became an acclaimed film producer, working on movies such as Miracle, Secretariat and The Rookie. He also served as Maryland's Spring Commencement speaker in 2017.
Justin Maxwell - Spent four years in College Park (2002-2005) before being drafted in the fourth round of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals. Played in the big leagues for four different teams over seven seasons, including the Washington Nationals. Maxwell also played professionally in South Korea for a season.
Jeff Schaefer - Played three seasons at Maryland (1979-1981) before being drafted in the 12th round of the 1981 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles. Ended up playing in five Major League seasons for Chicago White Sox, Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics. Since his retirement from playing, he has served as a youth coach and founded the Carolina's Baseball Center.
Kevin Smith - Played three seasons at Maryland (2015-17), advancing to a pair of NCAA Tournaments, including a Super Regional in 2015. Smith was named a freshman All-American in 2015 and was a two-time Big Ten All-Tournament team selection. The East Greenbush, N.Y., native was drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays and hit .302 with 25 home runs in minor league ball in 2018.
Jimmy Reed - Played four seasons in College Park (2010-2013) with a career 3.88 ERA and served as Maryland's staff ace in 2013. Drafted in the sixth round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals and played five minor league seasons.
The night will also include dinner, an open bar and a silent auction. The event serves as an opportunity for Maryland baseball families and supporters to meet the players and coaches and show support for the program.
