Penn State National Open
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. --
Kameron Jones highlighted the weekend for the Terps at Penn State, setting the 3
rd school record of his career. Jones dominated the field in the 300m dash, winning this event in a school record time of 34.10. This adds to his accolades, which include records in both the 600m and 400m events.
Feeding off of this energy, several Terps earned personal best marks and spots in the record books in their respective events.
In the 60m dash,
Bria Mack set a collegiate best time of 7.58, moving her into the 7
th position all-time at Maryland.
Jaida Smith also continued her consistency in the 60m dash, posting a time of 7.63, while
Imani Gray ran a lifetime-best 7.70 in the 60m. Smith came back to place seventh in the 200m dash running 25.16, while
Imani Gray took 12
th in this event with a 25.57.
Continuing the success in the sprints,
Dashawn Morris ran in his first collegiate meet and first indoor competition and earned himself the No. 2 spot on the Maryland all-time list with a time of 21.57.
Cameron Vereen finished in 10
th place with a 22.20 for his best indoor performance this season.
Leah Blackall won her second event of the year in the triple jump where she outperformed the field and jumped a solid 12.32m. Blackall has made her mark in this event early in the indoor season.
Hazem Miawad claimed victory in the 600m Invitational event. Miawad posted a lifetime best of 1:18.84 after beating the field by nearly a second. This earns Miawad the number two spot all time in the Maryland record books.
Colin Rowe took second in his first collegiate meet in the 600m run with a 1:21.17.
In the 300m dash,
Destiny Ward took second place by running an impressive 39.49 which places her fifth all-time in the Maryland record books.
Venida Fagan finished near the top in addition, posting a personal-best fourth-place 39.78 (which also places her 6
th on the Maryland all-time list) and
Jewel Smith took 12
th in the same event, running a 41.51 (eighth on the Maryland all-time list).
Cheyenne Jones took sixth in the 400m dash invitational with an indoor personal-best 55.77. In the 400m dash,
Thaila Cooper ran a 58.79 which earned her ninth in the race.
In the 1000m run, two Terps finished in the top five with
Christine Laurie taking fourth with a season-best 2:56.00 and
Mackenzie Morgan finishing fifth in a personal-best 2:56.43.
In the 5k,
Kathryn Gearhart ran a 17:32.44, which placed her second on the leaderboard. Putting forth a strong effort was
Brittany Lang, running the 3000m run invitational in 9:54.48 to finish in ninth place. In the men's distance events,
Aaron Barlev ran the mile in a personal-best 4:17.81 and earned 11
th in the race.
Navy Invitational
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Caroline Augelli led the way for the distance crew, placing 2
nd in the women's 5000m run with a personal best time by over 20 seconds of 18:10.90.
Alice Barnsdale set a personal best 17.37m throw that earned her first place in the weight throw.
Bayli Smith also threw to a fourth-place finish 16.42m in the weight throw and
Kamryn Henderson placed 11
th with a 14.48m throw.
Kamryn Henderson brought home sixth place in the shot put with a 12.00m throw.
Ryan Scott finished fourth in the 1000m run with a time of 2:31.93 with teammate
William Jones competing in this event also after a double in the mile run.
For the women, freshman
Alexa Woltjen ran 3:07.96 in the 1000m run in her first collegiate competition.
Emily McAllister doubled in the 800m run after posting a personal best performance in the mile.
In the pole vault, newcomer Chris Spiess took eighth in his first meet as a Terp clearing a height of 4.55m.
