
Charles Earns Conference, National Weekly Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior Kaila Charles of the Maryland women's basketball team was named Big Ten and ESPNW National Player of the Week Monday.
Charles led the 11th-ranked Terrapins to a 70-55 win over No. 23 Michigan Saturday in College Park. She went 10-for-17 from the field for a season-high 23 points with 11 boards, three assists and three steals. She scored six straight points in a key stretch for the Terrapins in the third quarter.
Charles recently moved to No. 9 on Maryland's all-time scoring list with 1,685 career points. She moved past Christy Winters Scott (1987-90) with 1,679 points.
This is Charles' 10th overall weekly Big Ten honor and first this season.
Maryland (10-2, 1-0 B1G) will travel to Evanston, Ill. to take on Northwestern (11-1, 1-0), which is receiving votes on both the Associated Press and USA Today Sports Coaches polls. The Terps and the Wildcats will tip off at 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Tuesday's matchup is the ninth all-time between Maryland and Northwestern, with the Terps winning the seven previous meetings. Most recently, Maryland won 72-57 in College Park last year on Feb. 7. Stephanie Jones led the way with 16 points. The Terps are 2-0 at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The Terrapins lead the country with their turnover margin of +10.9. They are second in the nation in steals (14.4) and in the top nationally in 3-point field goal percentage (.411) and scoring margin (+34.4). Blair Watson is No. 10 in the country with her 3-point percentage of .475. Taylor Mikesell is 17th (.463).
Blair Watson has made 168 career threes. She is sixth on Maryland's all-time list.
