Maryland owns the series over Minnesota at 7-1. The Gophers, who are receiving votes in this week's Associated Press poll, have won six straight.
 
Brenda Frese was the head coach at Minnesota for the 2001-02 season and coached Gopher head coach Lindsay Whalen. Frese led the Gophers to a record of 22-8 and an NCAA Tournament berth before being named AP National Coach of the Year.
 
The Terps fell at No. 14 Iowa, 86-73, Sunday in Iowa City. The Terrapins went on a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter and take a one-point lead, then cut it to a one-point game with 3:25 to play, but the Hawkeyes went 27-29 at the free throw line to seal the win. Junior Stephanie Jones led Maryland with 21 points and eight boards, freshman Taylor Mikesell added 14 points and junior Blair Watson scored 13.
 
In the last two weeks, junior Kaila Charles was named to the Citizen Naismith Trophy Midseason Team, the Cheryl Miller Award Final 10, the Wade Watch List and the Wooden Award Late Season Top 20.
 
Mikesell has made 75 three-pointers this year and needs to make just 17 to top the program season record of 91 made by Kristi Toliver in 2008-09. Fellow freshman Shakira Austin has 65 blocks this season and needs just 16 to top the program season record of 80 by Kris Kirchner in 1978-79.
 
Maryland is 11th in the country and leads the Big Ten in rebounding margin (+9.7). Sophomore Channise Lewis leads the Big Ten in assist/turnover ratio (2.7) and assists (5.1).
 
Mikesell leads the league and is in top 30 nationally with her three-point percentage of .424. Austin is third in the Big Ten and 10th in the country in total blocks (65). Charles is No. 5 in the Big Ten in scoring (15.7), Mikesell is No. 13 (13.8) and Jones is 14th (13.1).
 
After Thursday's contest, the Terps will hit the road once more to take on Purdue (17-11, 8-7) Monday at 6:30 p.m. in West Lafayette, Ind. The Terps-Boilermakers matchup will be televised around the world on the Big Ten Network.
