GymTerps Earn Second Best Score of the Season at Big Five Meet

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Maryland gymnastics team earned a 195.500 Friday night, their second best score of the season. The Terps competed for the first time on podium this season, adding pressure to the tight scoring Big Five competition.
The Terrapins earned a season best vault score of 48.975 and senior Alex Robinson posted a career best floor routine worthy of a 9.825.
"They did a great job and pulled out a solid score," said head coach Brett Nelligan. "Tons of pressure, tough environment, it's on podium and they handled themselves really well and that shows us that we're ready for these next couple of weeks."
The Friday session of the Big Five meet included Maryland, Michigan State, Iowa, Penn State and Nebraska. Iowa took the title with a final score of 196.450.
The Terrapins started the event on floor where Collea Burgess continued to dominate the event, sticking her first pass of a triple full to earn an overall score of 9.850. Audrey Barber followed closely behind with a 9.800 of her own.
Ohio native Alecia Farina returned to her home state to compete for the first time in her collegiate career and earned a 9.775 or better on all three of her events including a 9.800 vault score that earned her the stick shell.
Audrey Barber earned second in the all-around competition with a score of 39.150 including a 9.825 on bars.
Sophomore Emilie LeBlanc remained among the most consistent gymnasts in the Maryland lineup earning a 9.825 on beam and 9.850 on bars.
Kirsten Peterman celebrated her 21st birthday Friday and earned a 9.800 on bars to push the Terps to a team score of 49.000.
Tiara Wright returned to competition not missing a beat to earn the Terrapins a 9.800 on bars.
"She brought a lot of confidence to beam and bars," said Nelligan. "It was really good to see her return to her form right away and that was big for us."
The Terps next outing comes on Friday, March 1 at George Washington.
