Bruno Fernando has been named Sporting News Honorable Mention All-America, as announced Monday.

Fernando is Maryland's first Sporting News All-American since Greivis Vasquez earned first team honors in 2010. Maryland's last All-American was Melo Trimle, who was named Associated Press Honorable Mention in 2016 and 2017.

Fernando, who is a top-5 finalist for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award (nation's best center), has been dominant in his sophomore season for the Terrapins. Vote here

The Luanda, Angola, native ranks seventh nationally and third in the Big Ten with 20 double-doubles on the season, while also leading the Big Ten in field goal percentage (.624). He also ranks second in the Big Ten in both rebounds/g (10.5) and offensive rebounds/g (3.1), while ranking third in blocks/g (1.9).

Smith and the Terrapins return to action Thursday afternoon when they face either Nebraska or Rutgers in the second round of the Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament in Chicago.
