Terps Trounce Elon, 11-4

ELON, N.C. – Five Maryland players notched multi-hit games as the Terps exploded for their best offensive performance of the season in an 11-4 victory over Elon at Latham Park Tuesday afternoon.

The Terrapins (11-8) racked up a season-high 15 hits and hit three home runs, including two from junior Caleb Walls. Walls had four hits, four RBIs and three runs scored on the day while senior AJ Lee went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs.

The road team started fast with three runs in the second. Sophomore Justin Vought and Lee singled back-to-back to start the frame before moving over on a Tommy Gardiner sac bunt. Vought then scored on a passed ball to give Maryland the lead. Walls stepped up and hit an inside the park home run off the center field wall to make it 3-0.

Elon worked its way back into the game with single runs in the second and the third. The Phoenix then took the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth, before right-hander Will Glock entered and ended the threat. Glock retired all eight batters he faced in the game and earned his third win of the year.

The Terps' bats came alive between the sixth and the eighth. In the sixth, Walls singled up the middle to leadoff the frame before Chris Alleyne walked. Alleyne then traded places with Randy Bednar on a fielder's choice. Walls and Bednar then scored on separate wild pitches.

The seventh inning saw Sebastian Holte-Mancera lead off the inning with a walk before Justin Vought doubled off the wall to put two runners in scoring position. Lee followed with a double in the left centerfield gap to plate two. Walls then plated Lee on a bunt single after Maryland's senior shortstop moved over on a wild pitch.

In the eighth inning, Lee hit a two-run homer down the left field line before Walls hit his second homer of the game to right field.

Maryland and Elon will complete their two-game series Wednesday at Latham Park. Wednesday's contest is set for 4 p.m., and fans can listen to the action live on the Maryland Baseball Network.
