COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland football team held its third practice of the spring on Saturday afternoon. It was the Terps first spring practice in shoulder pads.
"I thought today we were a little sloppy, which is to be expected when you first put pads on," said Maryland Head Coach Michael Locksley. "We did get some good work in. I feel like we are continuing to do our installs with all three phases and our players, again, have been very willing. They have bought into a lot of things and different things and changes we've made. I've been pleased with that, but we definitely have to learn to come out, start fast and practice on a consistent basis with the energy that you want from your team."
With the first full week of practices complete, sophomore running back Anthony McFarland Jr. is excited about where the team is.
"The first week of practice has been exciting," said McFarland. "We have a new coaching staff, new plays and a new environment. It has been pretty exciting. I think the coaches; everybody in the building is trying to make this fun, and a football family. The first week has been pretty good, we're just trying to work towards our goal, and that's to get better every day."
The Terps return to the field on Tuesday and spring camp will conclude with the annual Red-White Spring Game on Saturday, April 27.
Maryland opens its 2019 campaign on Saturday, August 31 at home against Howard. For more information on the season, follow @TerpsFootball on Twitter and Instagram, and for details on purchasing tickets, visit LockedIn2019.com.
