COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Ohio State (19-10, 4-1 B1G) showed off their strengths today and was able to hit the ball nearly as well as any team the Terps (17-16, 1-4 B1G) had faced this season, managing 10 runs on eight hits and taking down Maryland 10-1 in front of a season-high announced crowd of 877.
The Buckeyes got on the board first via a bases-loaded walk delivered by senior pitcher Sami Main, and added five more runs in the second, pulling away early while the Terps' batters struggled against Ohio State pitcher Lauren Rice. They plated another run in the third after redshirt freshman pitcher Victoria Galvan came in to take over pitching duties.
The Terps would get their lone run of the day as a Bailey Boyd base knock drove in Amanda Brashear, but Maryland would leave two on base (of seven LOB total on the day).
Ohio State would get three more runs across in the fifth, putting them in good position for a run-rule victory as they led 10-1 heading to the bottom of the frame, and Maryland wasn't able to get any more offense going as they fell victim to the mercy rule. Maryland and Ohio State will face off tomorrow at 1 p.m. with the series on the line.
