COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland women's tennis team was topped by 36th-ranked Illinois, 4-0, on Sunday.
The Illini grabbed the doubles point to begin the match, winning at second and third doubles. Maryland's top doubles tandem of Millie Stretton and Eva Alexandrova led, 4-3, when the match went unfinished due to the clinch.
Illinois then continued its strong play when singles began, winning in straight sets at first, third and fourth singles to clinch the victory. Alexandrova was within a game of winning her match at second singles before it went unfinished due to the Illinois clinch. Maryland's Katsiaryna Yemelyanenka was also within a game of taking her second set, leading 5-4 before it went unfinished.
Maryland will be back in action on April 5th and 7th, hitting the road to take on Nebraska and Iowa in conference play.
