COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Today, Athletic Director, Damon Evans highlighted the accomplishments of the Maryland track and field team that had athletes compete in the 2018 NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships.
"It's an exciting time to be a Maryland track and field and cross country athlete," said head coach Andrew Valmon.
Among the three athletes honored today include senior Greg Thompson who placed second overall in discus with a 58.96m (193'5").
Senior Sam Shoultz who placed 12th in the high jump with a height of 6'11.75"(2.13m), and senior Jewel Smith who competed in long jump with a jump of 19'6"(5.94m).
The three senior athletes were gifted NCAA All-American rings and Coach Valmon couldn't be prouder.
"It was big for me because I think what we strive for is to be part and do our part. And seeing them go to the NCAA which is the pinnacle of what you do in this sport and to be acknowledged and honored is a big thing. We've said the NCAA is where we want to be and what we want to shoot for and have that opportunity. It's a great thing to buy some NCAA rings," he said.
The Terps wrapped up indoor season with Big Ten Indoor championships. They will kick off their outdoor season March 16 at the Maryland Invitational.
