COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland managed five hits off one of the Big Ten's elite pitchers in Tara Trainer but defensive miscues and Indiana's hitters were too much to overcome as the Hoosiers took down the Terps, 8-0 in five innings.
JoJo McRae battled a 10-pitch at bat to lead off the game, eventually reaching on a chopper fielded by Trainer,
Amanda Brashear reached base on a fielder's choice, and
Anna Kufta walked in a promising first inning for the Terps, but couldn't plate a run. Indiana had a first-inning surge, scoring a pair of runs on an RBI single after the Hoosiers got runners on via an error and a single.
Taylor Wilson belted a double to the left-center wall in the second, but the Maryland offense would strand her there following a pair of strikeouts. Indiana however would continue to plate runs, scoring three on a double after Indiana again took advantage of an error.
Maryland's offense would fall flat for the rest of the game, striking out seven times and only reaching base twice on a pair of singles, twice on errors, and once on a fielder's choice. Meanwhile Indiana scored another run in the fourth and scored the game-sealing run in the bottom of the fifth, winning in walk-off run-rule fashion.
Maryland will play a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. tomorrow due to anticipated weather conditions on Sunday. Both games will still be streamed on BTN Plus.
