COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Maryland women's golf team finished the third and final round Sunday in the Lady Buckeye Invitation at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio. Under head coach
Diana Cantu, this is the Terps' fourth top five finish this year.
Sophomore
Virunpat Olankitkunchai led the Terps with a 2
nd place finish out of 74 participants. She finished even with a score of 216 (72-73-71).
"Virunpat played consistent the entire tournament, shooting even par for three rounds in a tough golf course," head coach
Diana Cantu said. "Her second place finish adds to her numerous top ten finishes this season."
Following her was junior
Xiaolin Tian with a score of 226 (70-83-73). Sophomore
Laura Van Respaille finished just one stroke behind her with a score of 227 (77-76-74).
"Laura played strong for us this week. She is a solid player with grit on the course, she continues to come out strong for the team," said Cantu. "Tian was also an instrument in our finish with two low rounds."
Sophomore
Charlotte Lafourcade finished with a score of 232 (77-74-81). Finishing just one stroke apart were seniors
Ludovica Farina 236 (80-74-82) and
Ludovica Scandroglio 237 (82-75-80).
As a team, the Terrapins finished 3
rd out of 12 with a final score of 890 (296-296-298). Under coach Cantu's coaching this week, the Terps beat the No. 30 ranked team in the country.
"We did a lot of good things this week. Leading the field in birdies and par 3 play was awesome. We played the golf course aggressively and it paid off," said Cantu.
Next the Terps will head to Maineville, Ohio, April 19 – 21 for the Big Ten Championships.
