Terps Celebrate Seniors in Home Finale

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland women's tennis team celebrated the careers of seniors Millie Stretton and Arnelle Sullivan in its home finale for the 2019 season on Sunday. The two were honored for their dedication and passion to the Maryland tennis program and athletic department as a whole, with the celebration following Maryland's 5-0 loss to No. 14 Michigan (10-0 B1G).

A four-year member of the tennis program, Sullivan has excelled during a career that saw her play throughout the Maryland lineup. As a freshman, she stepped into the top spot of Maryland's singles lineup and played her way into earning ITA Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year plaudits. She was also added to the "Players to Watch" list entering her sophomore campaign.

Sullivan was a key component of Maryland's 2016-17 squad, which won the most matches in a spring season in program history. She anchored the middle portion of Maryland's singles lineup while also competing in doubles play. Sullivan also excelled throughout Maryland's fall seasons, which included a pair of titles at the prestigious Kitty Harrison Invitational.

Coming to Maryland after a two-year stint at Kansas State, Stretton immediately emerged as a leader for the Maryland tennis program. She excelled on the doubles court in her junior season, teaming up with partner Eva Alexandrova to soar as high as No. 22 in the nation. The duo knocked off a number of ranked opponents in their time together, including the fourth-ranked tandem in the nation from Northwestern at the 2018 Big Ten Tournament. They also secured a coveted spot in the 2018 ITA All-American main draw.

Stretton also was a force in singles play, posting an impressive record while playing at the top three slots of Maryland's lineups during her two seasons in College Park.

Next, Maryland will close out its regular season with a pair of matches at Purdue and Indiana. The Terps will battle Purdue on April 20 before wrapping up the regular season at Indiana on the 21st.
