
Hemida Earns Second Academic All-American Honor

MANHEIM, Pa. -- Senior heavyweight Youssif Hemida was named a 2019 Academic All-American, the National Wrestling Coaches Association announced Thursday.
It was the second time in his career Hemida won the award, previously accomplishing the feat in 2018. He also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for the third time in his career in March.
He becomes the fourth Terrapin to earn multiple Academic All-American honors, joining Hudson Taylor, Kyle John and Jimmy Sheptock.

Hemida joins a prestigious list of student-athletes from around the country who met the following qualifications in the current academic year:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above and won 60% or more of his/her total schedule in the 2017-18 season; AND/OR was a 2018 NCAA Qualifier
- OR, achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and earned 2018 NCAA All-American honors
The Mamaroneck, N.Y., native led the way for Maryland this season, earning NCAA All-American status for the second consecutive season. Hemida placed third at the Big Ten Championships before earning his sixth-place finish and spot on the podium at the NCAA Championships. The third-place finish at the conference tournament was Maryland's highest since the team joined the Big Ten and Maryland's best individual finish in a conference tournament since Jimmy Sheptock won an ACC title in 2014.
