Maryland Travels to Illinois for Three Game Series

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland baseball team heads to its first Big Ten road series of the season against Illinois. All three games will be streamed live on BTN Plus or fans can listen on the Maryland Baseball Network. Maryland is 5-7 all-time against the Illini. Illinois won 2-of-3 in the team's series in 2018. 
Storylines
  • Maryland's Friday ace Hunter Parsons was sensational is his last outing against Indiana, allowing just two hits over eight innings against the Hoosiers. Parsons has a 1.69 ERA and 15 strikeouts to just three walks over 15 innings in his last two starts. He's given up just six hits in those starts. Parsons 0.90 WHIP is sixth in the Big Ten. 
  • Freshman Maxwell Costes has earned two Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors and a Big Ten Player of the Week plaudit so far this season. 
  • Senior Taylor Wright has taken the next step this season after struggling last year in his first season at Maryland. Wright is currently riding a nine-game hitting streak, batting .355 with a .524 on-base percentage in that span. He leads the Big Ten and is 25th in the country with 12 doubles. 
  • Senior outfielder Caleb Walls has reached base in his nine games and has been one of Maryland's most productive players over that span. He is slashing .345/.474/.621 with two home runs and seven RBIs in that span. 
  • Senior shortstop AJ Lee has started to find his form in his 12 games since returning from injury on March 15. Lee leads the Terps with eight RBIs over that span and has six extra base hits with an on-base percentage of .408. 
  • Maryland has done a solid job drawing free passes in 2019, ranking second in the Big Ten with 128 walks. The Terps have also been hit by 45 pitches, which ranks first in the conference.
  • Senior right-hander John Murphy is starting to climb up Maryland's all-time saves list. With five for the season, Murphy now has 10 for his career, which ranks t-7 in Maryland history. With one save this weekend, Murphy would tie for sixth (Mike Ginsberg) and with two would tie for fifth with Ryan Selmer.
