CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Maryland track & field team finished the UVA Quad Meet with two new school records set, eight first-place performances, and many other season-best performances earned.
Highlights and Terp Victories
In the women's hammer, Alice Barnsdale set a new school record and took first place with a lifetime best throw of 62.75m (205'10"). Barnsdale surpassed her previous best by 10 feet en route to these accolades. Â
In the women's javelin throw, Lillian Hill set a new school record and took second with a throw of 42.72m (140'2"). The freshman is only getting started, as she has a long career to continue on this path.
Christine Laurie won the women's 1500m, placing first with a season best time of 4:27.02.
Mikella Lefebvre-Oatis won the women's high jump, clearing 1.76m (5'9 ¾").Â
Kameron Jones won the men's 800m run by almost four seconds, finishing in 1:49.79. This was Jones' first time this season attempting the 800m distance.
Greg Thompson won his third discus event of the outdoor season with a throw of 59.27m (194'5"). The mark was 30 feet further than his next competitor.
Aaron Robinson won the men's 400m with a time of 47.61. The sophomore has continued to notch seconds off his time each time he steps on the track.
The final victories of the day came from the women and men's 4x400m squads. The women's team included Santiago, Fagan, Morgan and Gray. The men's race was comprised of Robinson, Miawad, Rowe, and Scott.
Women
Bayli Smith finished in fourth (51.38m) and Kamryn Henderson finished fifth (46.06m) in the hammer throw.
Yasmine Kass finished sixth in the 1500m with a season best time of 4:40.64 and Alexa Woltjen also notched a season best performance finishing in 4:46.76. Paige Novak ran 4:51.34 and Emily McAllister crossed the line 4:58.78
In the short sprints, Jaida Smith took second in the women's 100m dash with a time of 12.02. Bria Mack placed second in the women's 200m, crossing the line in 24.75. Cheyenne Jones also finished on the podium in the 200m with a 24.97 and Imani Gray took fourth with a 25.23.
Venida Fagan finished in second in the women's 400m with a season best time of 55.38 in this event.
In the women's 800m, Alexandra Lucki placed second with a 2:11.62 and Mackenzie Morgan finished fourth with a 2:15.67.
In the women's 3000m, Kathryn Gearhart finished third with a new personal best time of 9:57.57. Gearhart's mark ranks her ninth all time at Maryland.
In the women's 400m hurdles, Xahria Santiago, Thaila Cooper and Nadia Hackett finished third, fourth and fifth with times of 59.65, 1:00.88, and 1:01.37, respectively.
Julia Reicin took third in the women's 2000m steeplechase, for the first steeple race of her college career.
In the pole vault, Gwendolyn Zeckowski placed third, clearing 3.60m (11'9 ¾").
In the women's shot put, Kamryn Henderson finished in second with a season-best mark of 13.05m.
Men
In the men's high jump, Sam Shoultz took second by clearing 2.11m (6'11"). Freshman, Nate Moore competed for the first time in the collegiate high jump clearing 2.06m (6'9").
Chris Spiess took second in the pole vault by clearing 4.55m (14'11").
In the short sprints, Andrew Alfano finished second in the 100m dash (11.16) and Cameron Vereen took third in the 200m dash (22.13).Â
Colin Rowe finished the 400m dash in 48.58.
In the men's 2000m steeplechase, Aaron Barlev finished fourth in 6:04.63 and Will Jones tackled this event for the first time running 6:15.74.Â
In the men's 1500m, Patrick Hanley finished fifth with a time of 3:59.75.
