COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The senior duo of
Jen Giles (four goals, one assist) and
Megan Taylor (10 saves) led the way as the No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse team (14-0, 4-0 B1G) cruised to a 14-3 win over No. 7 Michigan (13-1, 3-1 B1G) in a battle of unbeaten teams on Saturday evening.
"Great day overall," said head coach
Cathy Reese. "It was awesome to honor our amazing seniors before the game and get them all out on the field together to start and then come up with a win against a tough Big Ten opponent."
The Maryland defense was dominant in the top ten contest, holding Michigan to a season-low three goals and just two goals in the last 59 minutes of play. The Terps held the Wolverines to just 22 shots, 0-for-4 on free position and saved 10 shots. Taylor's 10 saves to only three goals allowed, a .769 percentage increased her nation-best save percentage to .614 this season (132 saves, 83 goals allowed). Senior
Shelby Mercer led Maryland with two caused turnovers.
Offensively, the Terps dominated possession, winning 14 of 19 draw controls led by seven from junior
Kali Hartshorn and five from junior
Lizzie Colson. Giles led the way with four goals and an assist while graduate student
Erica Evans, junior
Brindi Griffin and sophomore
Grace Griffin all had two goals. Giles and G. Griffin each picked up two of Maryland's nine groundballs.
Held scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the game and trailing 1-0 after Michigan scored right out of the gate, Maryland scored nine straight, with senior
Caroline Steele starting the scoring, followed by two apiece from G. Griffin and Giles, and one from sophomore
Catie May, Evans and Hartshorn. Giles started the scoring in the second half as Maryland outscored Michigan 6-2 in the second half.

The 2019 class has never lost a Big Ten game, winning the regular season and tournament titles in each season and they have competed in three straight NCAA Final Fours, winning the 2017 National Championship.Â
Today marked Maryland's seventh top ten win of the season, their 84th straight win at home and moved the Terps to 26-0 all-time in Big Ten regular season games.
Next, the Terps will travel to No. 4 Northwestern to take on the Wildcats on Thursday, April 11 at 8:00 p.m. ET.Â
