COLLEGE PARK, MD — Seven former Maryland women's lacrosse standouts helped the Maryland Charm make history Saturday, capturing the inaugural Women's Lacrosse League championship with a 16-13 victory over the California Palms.
After finishing last in the 2025 and 2026 WLL Championship Series, the Charm completed a remarkable turnaround in the league's third championship competition, going all the way to claim the inaugural WLL trophy.
The championship roster featured seven former Terps: Alex Aust Holman, Megan Douty-Marino, Grace Griffin, Maddy Sterling, Erica Evans, Abby Bosco and Aurora Cordingley.
Less than 10 months after giving birth to her son, Tiger, current Maryland assistant coach Alex Aust Holman delivered one of the game's biggest performances. Holman recorded a hat trick in the victory, with her third goal coming with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and ultimately standing as the game-winner.
Erica Evans contributed on both ends of the field, finishing with a goal, one ground ball and two caused turnovers.
Maryland's defensive contingent also played a key role in securing the title. Sterling, Bosco, Douty-Marino and Griffin helped slow the Palms' offense and create critical extra possessions for the Charm.
Douty-Marino provided one of the game's defining hustle plays. After causing a turnover and then losing possession, she recovered to check the ball out of an attacker's stick, giving the Charm another opportunity with the ball.
Bosco finished the championship game with five ground balls and one caused turnover, while Sterling added two ground balls and a caused turnover.
With seven former Terps contributing to the historic victory, the Charm capped their championship run by bringing the WLL's first trophy home to Maryland.
