COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- After another standout week where she posted 19 saves to only nine goals allowed, senior Megan Taylor earned her sixth straight Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
In Maryland's two top ten wins at #8 Virginia and against undefeated #7 Michigan, Taylor secured a save percentage.679 percentage, while also tallying three groundballs and backlining a Maryland defense that held two top ten opponents to under six goals, both the respective teams season lows.
At No. 8 Virginia, Taylor had nine saves to only six goals allowed, a .600 percentage, while totaling seven saves to only two goals allowed in the second half, a .778 percentage, in a half that Maryland held Virginia to only two goals.
Taylor was spectacular in goal against No. 7 Michigan, posting 10 saves to only three goals allowed, a .769 save percentage. The senior helped hold Michigan scoreless for a 35 minute span after their first goal.
Now on the season, Taylor has the highest save percentage in the country at .614 (132 saves, 83 goals allowed) and leads the Maryland defense that has held its opponents to just 4.5 goals per game this past week and just 6.43 goals per game this season, the second best mark in the country. Taylor has over a 50-percent save percentage in every game this season. In Big Ten play, Taylor has a .762 save percentage (32 saves to only 10 goals allowed) and has held all four opponents to under six goals.
This is the sixth week in a row that Taylor has earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors, over that time recording a .647 save percentage at 99 saves and only 54 goals allowed. Taylor's streak of winning the award is the longest by any Maryland player since the Terps joined the conference in 2015.
Taylor and the Terps will be back in action on Thursday for a big conference road test at No. 5 Northwestern, which will air at 8:00 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
