
Thompson Wins Third Big Ten Field Athlete Of The Week Honor

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Senior Greg Thompson of the Maryland track and field team was named the Big Ten Men's Field Athlete of the Week today, as announced by the conference. This marks the second conference honor received by Thompson this season and the second conference honor the Maryland track & field team has received this season.
The London, England native continued to blow away the field and surpass his own school record (previously 61.39m set at the UNF Spring Break Invitational) in the men's discus throw. Thompson's 65.56m mark is currently the best mark in the Big Ten and ranks first in the in the NCAA, and Thompson has won five of seven discus events he has competed in this outdoor season.
This marks the third weekly conference honor Thompson has received in his career at Maryland. He won his first weekly honor on May 10, 2017 after setting the then-school record in the discus at the Kehoe Twilight Meet, and his second when he broke the school record at the 2019 UNF Spring Break Invite.
Also at the Penn Relays, Xahria Santiago, Gwendolyn Zeckowski and Kathryn Gearhart set personal bests, while the 4x400 meter relay squad broke their own school record and finished second with a 3:06.51.
The track & field squads return to the track Friday afternoon when Maryland hosts the Kehoe Twilight Meet.
