JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Day two of the NCAA East Prelims concluded with two additional qualifiers for the NCAA Finals in Austin, Texas. Greg Thompson advanced to the final round in the discus throw for the third time in his career. Xahria Santiago punched her ticket to Austin in the 400m Hurdles. Kameron Jones raced in the 400m dash quarterfinal in today's event. The Terps will close out the NCAA East Prelims tomorrow at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.

Greg Thompson, Maryland's first male Big Ten champion, punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships in the discus for his third-consecutive year. Thompson's mark of 58.31m ranked fourth at NCAA East Prelims. Last year, Thompson finished as the NCAA runner-up in the discus and he currently holds the top mark in the NCAA at 65.56m. 

Xahria Santiago ran a season-best 56.88 in the 400m hurdles on her way to her first NCAA Championship appearance.  In her second appearance at NCAA East Prelims, the sophomore shaved nearly a second off her previous season best in the 400m hurdles, set at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships. Santiago ran the fifth-fastest time at NCAA East Prelims to advance to the finals.

Kameron Jones ran his third-best time of the season in the quarterfinals of the 400m dash (46.55), but was just five spots off a qualifying mark to the NCAA Championships. Jones had a stellar campaign in the open 400m, setting the outdoor school record in this event at the Big Ten Championships prior to his appearance at the NCAA East Prelims. Jones will be back tomorrow in the 4x400m relay. 

Tomorrow, the Terps will conclude competition at NCAA East Prelims with performances in the men's and women's 4x400m relay, the women's 1500m run, the women's 5k, the women's triple jump and the men's high jump.
