COLLEGE PARK, Md. --
Amanda Brashear,
Anna Kufta, and
Regan Kerr each notched two hits and the Terps outhit the Wolverines, 8-7, but Michigan would come away with the 6-1 win on Friday night at the Maryland Softball Stadium.
Michigan got off to a hot start, scoring two runs in both the first and second innings, while Maryland couldn't get much going early.
Anna Kufta reached on a bloop double in the first, and
Taylor Wilson reached on an error in the second, but they were the only Terrapin baserunners in the opening two innings.
Michigan meanwhile scored two runs in the first inning on a 2-RBI single and two more in the second on a RBI single and a sacrifice fly.
After scoreless third, fourth and fifth innings, Michigan tacked on two more runs on a 2-RBI triple. The Terps responded in the bottom half of the frame, loading the bases with just one out. Maryland would come out of the inning with just one run - after a
Gracie Voulgaris RBI single - but that capped the scoring for Maryland on the night.
Kiana Carr entered the circle for
Sydney Golden in the seventh inning and kept the Wolverines off the board, but the Terps couldn't piece together a rally in the bottom of the seventh despite a
Regan Kerr leadoff single.
Maryland returns to the diamond tomorrow at 2 p.m. for a rematch with Michigan, nationally televised on the Big Ten Network with Lisa Byington and Elise Menaker on the call.
