ROSEMONT, Ill. – Sophomore Sammie Stefan and Junior Micaela Abbatine were named All-Big Ten honorees, as announced by the conference offices Thursday. Stefan earned Second Team honors, while Abbatine was named to the All-Defensive Team.

Stefan and Abbatine become the sixth and seventh Terrapins to garner All-Big Ten honors since Maryland joined the Big Ten, and their selections mark the first time Maryland has produced multiple all-conference honorees since 2015 when Lindsey Schmeiser, Erin Pronobis and Shannon Bustillos were named All-Big Ten.

Stefan became a mainstay in the lineup in her second year as a Terrapin, playing first base, third base, and most frequently, designated player. After hitting just .200 with seven hits in 35 at bats her freshman year, the LaGrange, Ohio native had a breakout sophomore campaign, ranking third on the team in batting average (.299), hits (43) and RBIs (33), while leading the team in home runs (7) and doubles (11).

In her first year as a Terp, Micaela Abbatine became one of Maryland's most reliable outfielders, starting 40 games, mainly in left field. Abbatine committed just one error on the season, leading the team with a .986 fielding percentage. Abbatine was also an asset in the batter's box – hitting at a .248 clip with 25 hits, three doubles and three home runs – and on the base paths, stealing five bases on the season.

"I am so proud of these two young ladies!" said head coach Julie Wright. "They both work extremely hard and I was happy to see they earned this recognition."

Sophomore JoJo McRae was named Maryland's Big Ten sportsmanship award nominee. Maryland (20-31, 4-19 B1G) ended the season last weekend with a three-game series vs. the No. 22 Michigan Wolverines, and honored its seniors on Sunday with a postgame Senior Day ceremony. Sami Main, Sydney Golden, Bailey Boyd, and manager Christine Bienes were honored on their last gameday as Terrapins.
