COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland baseball players Hunter Parsons and AJ Lee were selected on day three of the Major League Baseball Draft Wednesday afternoon.
The New York Mets selected Parsons in the 19th round (568th overall) while Lee went to the Houston Astros in the 34th round (1,036th overall). Maryland has now had multiple players selected in nine consecutive drafts.

Parsons, a third-team All-Big Ten selection, finished the season with 10 wins the third-most in a single campaign in school history. He became just the second pitcher in Maryland history to record double digit victories in a season (Mike Shawaryn). Parsons ended his senior campaign with a 3.45 ERA in 103 and 1/3 innings pitched and struck out 78 to 32 walks.
The Fruitland, Md., native finished as the Big Ten regular season leader in wins (9) and innings pitched (97.0) before the right-hander capped off his career with a seven and 1/3 innings of work in a win over Illinois in the Big Ten Tournament. He notched a career-high in strikeouts (10) twice in his final campaign and was a workhorse, tossing over 100 pitches in 12-of-15 starts.
For his career, Parsons ranks tied for fifth in wins (17) and 10th in innings pitched (251.0) in Maryland history. Parsons is the fourth Terp selected by the Mets after Ryan Selmer (2017/31st round), Adam Kolarek (2010/11th round) and Jerry Bark (1965/25th round) were also taken by the club. He was previously drafted in the 40th round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians.

Lee, also a third-team All-Big Ten selection, had a torrid senior season, reaching base in 31 of his last 33 games as a Terp. He started 51 games and slashed .317/.443/.497, all marks that ranked in the top-15 in the Big Ten. He belted seven home runs and racked up 13 doubles, while accumulating 36 RBIs, 38 runs scored and 10 stolen bases. His was voted a captain by his teammates prior to the season.
The Millersville, Md., native saved his best for last his senior season, capturing Big Ten Player of the Week honors during the final week of the regular season to push Maryland into the Big Ten Tournament. Lee then flourished in Omaha, recording eight hits over three Big Ten Tournament games, including a 4-for-5 performance in the final game of his career against Michigan. Lee hit a ninth inning solo home run in his final college at bat.
Also selected to the All-Big Ten Third Team in 2017, Lee is one of just three players in Maryland history to record All-Big Ten honors twice (Marty Costes/Nick Dunn). Lee, who was not previously drafted, makes it the third straight year the Astros have taken a Terp after selecting Marty Costes the previous two seasons. Houston also selected Maryland's Kevin Martir (2015/18th round) and Phillips Corddry (1968/32nd round) in previous drafts.
