Maryland Welcomes Transfer Braelyn Cooper for 2019-20

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Transfer pitcher Braelyn Cooper will join Maryland Softball for the upcoming 2019-20 campaign Tuesday after spending her freshman year at Liberty, where she held the lowest ERA (1.09) on the team. Cooper will have three years of eligibility remaining upon joining the team.

"Braelyn is a special young lady and we are very excited to have her and her family join ours," Head Coach Julie Wright said. "Her competitive spirit and will to win is contagious and I am looking forward to coaching her."

As a freshman at Liberty, Cooper saw 19.1 innings of work while limiting opponents to just three runs. The Amherst, Va. Native also struck out 13 batters and accumulated a 1-3 record before missing the last six weeks of the season due to injury.

At Amherst County High School, Cooper was a three-year starter and earned all-state first team accolades in 2018. She earned honorable mention all-region honors as a junior with a 0.98 ERA, and was named to the all-district team all three years at Amherst County HS. She pitched for Liberty Christian Academy as a freshman with a 1.35 ERA, two perfect games and 160 strikeouts.
