
Terrapins Wrap Up at Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. – The Maryland women's golf team wrapped up at the Cougar Classic Tuesday in its first event of the year. The Terrapins competed at the Yeaman's Hall Golf Club in Hanahan, S.C.
In her first event as a Terp, freshman Maria Vittoria Corbi led Maryland with her even score of 216 (70-73-73). She picked up three birdies in Tuesday's final round and tied for 25th.
Senior Xiaolin Tian was just three strokes over par with her score of 219 (74-73-73) and she also picked up three birdies Tuesday.
Junior Virunpat Olankitkunchai was six strokes over par with her score of 222 (70-78-74). Junior Laura Van Respaille shot a 225 (74-75-76). Junior Charlotte Lafourcade earned a score of 229 (78-77-74).
As a team, the Terrapins racked up earned their best-ever three-round score in this tournament with a score of 879 (288-298-293), which was +15.
"This was a slow start for us," head coach Diana Cantu said. "I know we'll be looking to be ready for our tournament at Tennessee next week. One positive is this was the lowest we've shot at this event, so that was good to see."
Next, Maryland will compete in the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate in Knoxville, Tenn., Sept. 16-17.
