
Maryland to Open Season at Cougar Classic

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women's golf team will open its fall slate at College of Charleston's Cougar Classic Monday and Tuesday at the Yeaman's Hall Golf Club in Hanahan, S.C.
The Terrapins and the 17 other teams competing will play 36 holes Monday with a shotgun start, followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Live scoring will be available here.
Maryland will compete against No. 5 Florida State, No. 7 Vanderbilt, No. 8 Florida, No. 9 Wake Forest, No. 13 Auburn, No. 18 Arkansas, No. 23 Oklahoma, Boston College, Campbell, College of Charleston, Furman, Georgetown, North Carolina, NC State, Penn State, Tennessee and UCF.
Senior Xiaolin Tian, juniors Virunpat Olankitkunchai, Laura Van Respaille and Charlotte Lafourcade, and freshman Maria Vittoria Corbi will be competing for the Terrapins.
Tian, Olankitkunchai and Van Respaille earned Big Ten Preseason honors last week as players to watch in the conference.
This past season, the Terrapins earned their first bid to NCAA Regionals since 2012 and their first under head coach Diana Cantu. Olankitkunchai became the first Maryland golfer in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championships. She tied for 43rd as a sophomore. Maryland finished 44th in the final GolfStat national team rankings, its highest ranking in program history.
