COLLEGE PARK, Md. - On Sunday afternoon, the Terps (3-2-1) tied the George Washington Colonials (2-1-1) 1-1 in a double-overtime battle. The Terps' only goal came from Junior Mikayla Dayes in 50th minute of play.
The game kicked off with tough defense from both sides of the field. The Terps pushed through by taking two shots within the same minute, both coming from forward Alyssa Poarch. The Colonials quickly answered by taking a close shot on Erin Seppi, but she was there to make the save.
The shots kept coming from both teams, and George Washington had a close opportunity with just under 10 minutes to play in the half. The Colonials took a straight on shot coming from Sofia Pavon, but Seppi was there for another great save. Seppi was challenged in the first half, with eight total George Washington shots.
As the second half began, the Terps came out strong looking for a goal. Another Seppi save in the opening minutes kept George Washington scoreless.
That goal they were searching for came in the 49th minute when Mikayla Dayes slipped between two center backs, and scored an unassisted goal to put the Terps ahead. The offense looked to increase the lead with 22 minutes to play, when Loren Sefick took an amazing shot that was high and went just over the bar.
The Colonials answered the Terp goal when Rachel Sorkenn scored with the assist from Allie Nornes in the final 15 minutes.
The game would continue into double overtime. In the second overtime period the Terps managed to get three shots on goal that came from Alyssa Poarch, Mikayla Dayes and Keyera Wynn. The Terps were looking for a victory and almost came out with the win.
Up next, the Terps come back at home to take on Temple at 7:00 p.m. at Ludwig Field.
