Sara Acosta (now Pizarro) had quite the career during her time at Maryland, starting in centerfield all four years. As a freshman, she was ranked No. 5 in the ACC with sac bunts, and was one of nine players to have a 1.000 fielding percentage. As a sophomore, Acosta was named to the All-ACC Tournament Team, and once again became one of 10 ACC players to have a 1.000 fielding percentage her junior year. Acosta rounded out her four years with having the most at-bats (166) and .313 batting average her senior year.
"I always say, Maryland was the best four years of my life. Being a student-athlete instilled in me the qualities that make me who I am today. It's allowed me to be a leader, take on challenges head on, have a voice, work hard in everything I do and always be on time (for fear of running extra, even though I am now an adult in the workforce, some things never change!). I am grateful for the memories, the friendships and that Maryland shaped me into the person I am today."
Acosta now lives in California with her husband, one year-old son Sebastien, and is currently pregnant with their new daughter.
