#13 Maryland to Welcome Rutgers Sunday

COLLEGE PARK, Md.  –  No. 13/12 Maryland will play two conference matchups at home at the XFINITY Center this week. First, the Terrapins (19-4, 10-2 B1G) will host Rutgers (17-5, 7-4) Sunday at noon at the XFINITY Center.

Sunday's matchup is the 39th all-time between Maryland and Rutgers. Maryland owns the series, 26-12 and has won seven of eight meetings since joining the league in 2014-15. They split last year's meetings. Rutgers took the first matchup, 73-65, in College Park on Dec. 31, 2018. Then, the Terrapins won 62-48 at Rutgers on Feb. 10, 2019.
 
Last time out, the Terrapins used a dominant second half to win at No. 18/22 Indiana, 79-69, Thursday. Maryland trailed 38-32 at halftime, then went on an 18-5 run to start the third quarter and take the lead. Kaila Charles led the way with 21 points, 11 boards. Ashley Owusu added 19 points, including 15 in the second half. Blair Watson and Taylor Mikesell each scored 10 points as Maryland won its eighth straight game.
 
The Terrapins are No. 3 in the country in steals (12.7) and fifth in scoring margin (+24.1). They are in the top 10 in the nation in turnover margin (+7.1) and in scoring (81.6).  Blair Watson is second in the league and 19th in the nation in steals (2.9). 
 
Charles currently has 1,870 career points and 878 career rebounds. She is one of just six Terrapins to be in the top 10 in the Maryland record books in scoring and rebounds, joining Alyssa Thomas, Brionna Jones, Marissa Coleman, Vicky Bullett and Crystal Langhorne. Taylor Mikesell reached 700 career points Thursday night and has 708 in her 57 career games. Shakira Austin is at 474 career rebounds.
 
Charles has started in all 126 games of her career. Charles has a chance to break Alyssa Thomas' record of 135 career games started. Charles' 126 career games started are fifth in Maryland's record book. Stephanie Jones has played in 125 career games.
 
Charles was named to the Wooden Award Midseason List Feb. 3 and a Senior CLASS Award finalist on Feb. 5. Blair Watson was named to the Naismith Womens Defensive Player of the Year midseason watch list on Jan. 23.
 
Next, the Terrapins will host No. 20/20 Iowa (19-4, 10-2) Thursday at 6 p.m.
