Griffin, McSally Earn Big Ten Weekly Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- After leading No. 11 Maryland to a pair of wins over No. 17 Navy and Hofstra this past week, senior Brindi Griffin and sophomore Maddie McSally both earned Big Ten weekly honors, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Griffin was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after totaling eight goals and one assist in Maryland's two victories. Against Hofstra this past Saturday, Griffin led Maryland with a season-high five goals, marking the second-highest single-game total of her career. The senior scored four straight goals between the 24:42 and 10:39 marks of the first half to help the Terps build a 5-2 lead after being down 2-1. Griffin now leads Maryland and ranks sixth in the Big Ten with 15 goals this season.

McSally was selected as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after posting 27 saves and only 18 goals allowed, a .600 save percentage, holding Maryland's two opponents to just 17 goals combined. The sophomore had 11 saves against Navy to only seven goals allowed, a .611 save percentage and a career-high 16 saves to only 11 goals allowed against Hofstra, a .593 save percentage, including nine saves in the first half. McSally's 16 saves against Hofstra were the most by a Maryland goalie since 2017. The goaltender currently ranks fifth in the NCAA and leads the Big Ten with a .551 save percentage, tallying 49 saves and only 40 goals allowed on the year.

This is Griffin's third career Big Ten weekly honor, twice being named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week in 2017. This marks McSally's first career Big Ten weekly honor.
