Terps Run Past Bryant, 8-3

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Junior Randy Bednar went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs to lead the Maryland baseball team past Bryant, 8-3, at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium Saturday afternoon. Freshman right-hander Nick Dean notched the best start of his career, tossing six shutout innings while striking out six.

What to Know
  • The Terps secured a series win against the Bulldogs with the 8-3 victory. Maryland has outscored Bryant 22-6 over the first two games of the series.
  • Bednar is absolutely ridiculous right now. The junior raised his average to .404 on the season and is slugging .615 with a .476 on-base percentage. He leads the team with 14 RBIs. He has hits in his last five games.
  • Bednar scored the Terps' first run of the game, coming home on Bobby Zmarzlak's double in the first. Zmarzlak has eight RBIs in his last two games after notching seven on Friday night. He had two hits on the day. The Terps notched three runs in the first, with Matt Orlando and Benjamin Cowles recording RBI singles.
  • Zmarzlak, Bednar, Orlando and Cowles all recorded multi-hit games.
  • In the fourth, the Terps plated a run on a beautiful bunt single from Troy Schreffler with two outs that plated Bednar. Bednar was at the center of the Terps' three-run fifth, hitting a double to the left center gap that plated a pair. Bednar then came home on a Maxwell Costes sac fly.
  • Dean was impressive in his fourth career start. The right-hander scattered three hits over a career high six innings pitched and did not give up a run. He struck out six and walked five.
  • Bryant's three runs came in the seventh, all charged to Terps lefty Ryan Ramsey. Elliott Zoellner tossed the final three innings in relief to earn his first save of the season.
  • Maryland's dugout erupted in the seventh after Brenton Davis, making his first career start, hit a solo home run to right field. Not a bad way to notch your first career hit.
