Maryland Defeats FIU, 5-3

MIAMI, Fla. -- Sophomore Regan Kerr batted .373 while going 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring two runs and one RBI in a 5-3 win over Florida International. Maryland went 2-0 in day two of the Panther Invitational.

Terps defeated FIU, 5-3: How It Happened:
  • With Kerr on second base, Okada reached first on an error by the pitcher then advanced to second on the  throw recording an RBI as Kerr scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning on the throw.
  • Freshman Taylor Liguori hit a sacrifice fly to center field that brought Okada in for a run, Terps led 2-1 at the end of the first inning.
  • With three on base (Micaela Abbatine, Amanda Brashear, and Kline), Kerr recorded an RBI single as Brashear scored the third run. Abbatine got out at second, Kline advanced to third.
  • Kline increased the Maryland lead to 4-1 by the end of the second, making it to home plate before Kerr got out at second.
  • Kerr scored the final run for the Terps in the top of the fifth when she doubled to the left side, advanced to third on an error on the catcher, and finished the play with a slide into home for the fifth run.

Numbers To Know:

3: Maryland recorded three RBIs.
3: Kerr notched three hits, tying a career-high.
11: Maryland improved to 11-11 on the season.
