COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland sophomore first baseman Maxwell Costes was named to the 2020 Collegiate Baseball All-American Team, the publication announced Tuesday morning.
Costes earned Third Team recognition, earning All-America honors for the second time in his career. The Baltimore, Md., native was a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American after his freshman campaign in which he was also named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2019. Costes becomes the 19th Terrapin in program history to earn All-America plaudits and the ninth in the last seven seasons.
This season, Costes was sensational as the team's first baseman and emerged as one of the premier first basemen in the Big Ten. He followed up his stellar freshman campaign with an even more explosive season at the plate, despite the shortened season. The sophomore led the team in batting average (.432), on base percentage (.620), slugging percentage (.750), home runs (4), and walks (16). His final on base percentage of .620 ranked second in the nation and first in the conference, while his batting average of .432 also ranked second in the conference.
Entering the spring, Costes was tabbed a Preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball.
Maryland has now had an All-American or freshman All-American in the last seven seasons.
