Six Terrapins Named to MLB 60-Man Rosters

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Major League Baseball clubs announced their initial 60-man roster pools this past weekend as teams prepare for the 2020 seasons, with six former Terps heading to training camps throughout the league.

LHP Brett Cecil (St. Louis Cardinals), LHP Adam Kolarek (Los Angeles Dodgers), INF Brandon Lowe (Tampa Bay Rays), RHP Mike Shawaryn (Boston Red Sox), INF Kevin Smith (Toronto Blue Jays), and OF LaMonte Wade Jr. (Minnesota Twins) were named to the initial player pools that MLB organizations can draw from for the 60-game season.

Cecil, Kolarek, Lowe, Shawaryn, and Wade have big league experience, with Shawaryn and Wade earning their call-ups during the 2019 season. Smith, who is the only current roster invitee to have not yet made it to the Major League level, looks to become the 28th Terp in program history to appear in The Show.

As most organizations have not yet filled all 60 spots in their player pools, there is potential for more Terps to be added to "Summer Camp" rosters in the coming days.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the schedule – and roster system – have been significantly modified. From the 60-man player pool, 30 will make the active roster, which will later be cut down to 26. All other players will train at a location other than the Major League facility and will be available on the player pool taxi squad.

Players on initial 60-man rosters will report to camp on July 1, while the season is slated to get underway on July 23.
