Medinah, IN - The Maryland women's golf team finished in a two-way tie for eighth at the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah Country Club. After two days of play, the Terps picked up their second top-ten finish of the season. Patricie Mackova led the charge for the squad placing in a four-way tie for sixth (-5) -- (73-73-65). Patricie's bogey-free 65 (-7) set the new all-time lowest round in program history during the final round. It's also her low career round. The record was previously held by former Terp Charlotte Lafourcade (2017-21), posting 66 (-6) during the second round of the IJGA Collegiate Invitational in Mexico during the spring of 2020. Â
Â
"To hit 18 greens in regulation - bogey-free, was incredible to watch." said head coach Kelly Hovland. "Her attention to detail, discipline, and composure throughout the entire tournament was great. I'm happy to see her hard work pay off, she put in the work throughout the bag. So, this is not a surprise. It's one the best rounds I've seen here at Maryland."

The Collective
The team played three great rounds, we finished at one-over-par (+1) for the event," said Hovland. "We beat three top-25 teams on a difficult championship course like course #2 in severe weather. So, that's a big boost of confidence for a good young team."

From the Coaches Eye - Hovland's Analysis
"We put up four consistent scores. So, that's an improvement, but we can do a lot better. We have a lot of fight left."
Â
Looking Forward
"We have a short 48-hour turnaround time this week going into our final tournament of the fall season on Friday, said Hovland. "So, we are going to use that to our advantage. The goal is to recover, maintain good health, mental freshness, and technique. If we manage all of that, we'll be ready to go for North Carolina.Â
Â
"We're going to compete with some of the best teams in the nation. It's going to be a strong field." It's the best tournament in the U.S. this week.
