COLLEGE PARK, MD - The eighth-ranked Maryland field hockey squad (9-4, 1-3 B1G) will play at No. 3 Rutgers (10-2, 3-1) Friday at 3 p.m., then will return home to College Park to host No. 17 UConn (7-7) Sunday at 2 p.m.

Sunday's matchup will be the Terrapins' annual Alumni Weekend Game. They will honor the 2011 National Championship squad.

2021-22 STORYLINES
Right here, right now
- Now in her 34th season, head coach Missy Meharg has earned a record of 599-153-9 (.793). She has more wins than any coach at Maryland in any sport. With 600 wins, she will be third DI coach to reach the mark.
- Maryland won both its matches last week. The Terrapins scored in the final minutes to force overtime in a 2-1 win at No. 12 Virginia on Oct. 7. Kyler Greenwalt scored the equalizer with under 5:00 to play. Hope Rose knocked in the game-winner with 32 seconds left in overtime. The Terps beat James Madison, 3-0, Sunday in College Park behind goals from Margot Lawn, Taylor Mason and Bibi Donraadt.
- Rose was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week Tuesday for the second time this season. She scored a game-winning goal and added an assist last week.
- The Terrapins have a variety of weapons. Thirteen Terps have found the goal cage, led by Bibi Donraadt with eight goals and six assists this season. Hope Rose has six goals.
- The Terps return 18 letterwinners from their 2020-21 squad, including All-Americans Brooke DeBerdine and Riley Donnelly. The Terps welcome five newcomers - Carly Hynd, Paige Kieft, Kylee Niswonger and US National Team players Julianna Tornetta and Hope Rose.
- Senior Riley Donnelly, junior Emma DeBerdine and freshman Hope Rose won bronze with the US Under-21 Team in the Junior Pan American Cup in Santiago, Chile in August. Rose was named MVP of the event.
- The Terrapins went 8-7 in the 2020 season (played in the spring of 2021). The Terps closed the regular season with a series sweep of No. 6 Rutgers.
Preseason honors
- Fifth-year seniors Brooke DeBerdine and Julianna Tornetta and freshman Hope Rose of the Maryland field hockey squad were named to the Big Ten's Players to Watch List.
- All three Terrapins were named to the US National Team roster this summer, along with former Terps Linnea Gonzales, Kelee Lepage and Carrie Hanks.
- DeBerdine, who earned NFHCA All-America honors this past spring, was voted team captain for the second straight season. She also earned First Team All-Big Ten honors this past spring.
- Tornetta, a graduate transfer from Princeton, and Rose are newcomers to the Terrapins' roster. Tornetta earned NFHCA All-America honors at Princeton in the 2019 and 2018 seasons. She helped the Tigers to back-to-back Final Four appearances and an appearance in the national title game. She tallied 18 goals and 33 assists in her career as a Tiger.
- Rose, an incoming freshman from Dauphin, Pa., earned MAX Field Hockey All-America honors. She scored 233 career goals in her high school career.

- Fifth-year seniors Brooke DeBerdine and Kyler Greenwalt of the Maryland field hockey squad were voted team captain and vice captain, respectively, by their teammates for the fall 2021 season.
- DeBerdine, who earned NFHCA All-America honors this past spring, served as the team's captain for the spring 2021 season.
- Greenwalt earned back-to-back Big Ten Sportsmanship Awards in the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

- No. 3 Rutgers is 10-2 overall and 3-1 in Big Ten play. The Scarlet Knights beat No. 4 Penn State, 1-0, last weekend. Milena Redlingshoefer, Kerrie Burns, Lucy Bannatyne and Gianna Mancini are all leading Rutgers with four goals each.
- Maryland is 34-3-1 all-time vs. Rutgers. The Terps took their two meetings last spring, 4-2 and 2-1 on April 15 and 17 in College Park.
- Rutgers head coach Meredith Civico played at Maryland. She helped the Terrapins advance to the NCAA Final Four for three-straight seasons, and helped them win the 2005 ACC title and the 2005 NCAA National Championship.
- No. 17 UConn is 7-7 overall. The Huskies beat Quinnipiac, 1-0, and Boston University, 8-0, last weekend. Sophia Ugo is leading UConn with six goals this season.
