EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State scored the go ahead in the 19th minute and never relinquished its lead as the Spartans secured a 2-0 victory over Maryland on Thursday night.
Maryland finished with nine shots while goalkeepers Madeline Smith and Liz Brucia combined to make six saves. Brucia stopped all three shots that came her way in the second half, including a point-blank stop early in period to keep the Terps in the match.
Ava Cook scored both goals for the hosts, who improve to 10-3-3 on the season. Maryland drops to 4-8-5. Â
Maryland managed five first-half shots but couldn't piece together any quality chances as the Spartans took a 2-0 deficit into the break.   Â
