MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 8 Maryland men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Wisconsin at the McClimon Soccer/Track Complex Sunday afternoon.
The Terrapins (7-2-1) were unable to take complete control of the contest against the Badgers, who broke through with an Andrew Akindele goal in the 52nd minute, a tally that ended up being the winner.
Maryland found a bit of control following the Wisconsin goal, but
Brett St. Martin was issued a red card in the 78th minute, which caused the Terps to finish with 10 men.
The Terps had a pair of late chances from
Justin Gielen and
Ben Bender, but both of their headers flashed wide.
Maryland returns to action Friday night at Ludwig Field against Northwestern. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the match can be seen live on Big Ten Plus.
