CHAMPAIGN, IL – Illinois (5-6, 1-3) scored two second half goals, rallying from a first half deficit to seal a 2-1 win over Maryland (4-5-4, 0-3-2) Sunday afternoon.
Hope Lewandoski opened up the scoring early in the first half, notching her second goal of the season with a strike in the ninth minute. Kori Locksley set her up for the score, her second assist of the year.
After being held scoreless for the first 64 minutes, the Illini finally broke free early in the second half to tie the game at one. A cross played from the left wing Ashley Cathro found its way to Maeve Jones on the back post, and she put away the equalizer.
A little over 10 minutes late the Illini would net the game-winner, after Ashleigh Lefevre collected a rebound in the box after an initial save from Liz Brucia. The Maryland goalkeeper finished with a season-high eight saves on the day, making several diving stops to keep the Terps ahead early.
