Terps Fall at Penn State Friday Night

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – Penn State scored three first half goals, all coming from senior Sam Coffey, as the Nittany Lions secured a 5-1 victory over Maryland Friday evening. The Terrapins move to 4-6-4 (0-4-2) on the year with the loss, while Penn State improves to 8-5-0 (2-4).
 
After Penn State opened the scoring in the 19th minute, Mikayla Dayes struck back to even the game just 36 seconds later. After Penn State's center back misplayed a touch in the backline, Dayes pounced on the ball and gained possession, before beating the Nittany Lion goalkeeper one on one.
 
The game wouldn't remain tied for long, as Coffey netted her second of three first half goals in the 28th minute, before putting her side up 3-1 at the break. It was all Penn State in the second half, as the hosts padded the lead with two more goals to put the game out of reach.
 
Penn State recorded a 18-5 edge in shots, with 10 shots coming on goal.

  • Maryland will return home next week to play its final two matches of the season at Ludwig Field, first facing Rutgers on Thursday, October 14. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
