2021 Season Wrap-Up

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - With the 2021 season officially behind us, it's time to take a look back at the incredible season that was for Maryland volleyball. From a historic win total, to electrifying upsets, to individual accolades, there was plenty to be proud about for the Terps.

WEEKEND STORYLINES
Season Of Success
- The entirety of the season was a great year for Maryland overall. The program's 19 victories is the most since 2010 for the Terps.
- Maryland's undefeated 13-0 start was the team's best beginning since 2005.
- Their seven Big Ten victories, are the most for the program since 2018.
Individual Honors
- In a season filled with team success, individual Terps garnered more awards than ever before throughout the season.
- Libero Milan Gomillion and middle blocker Rainelle Jones each earned two weekly honors from the Big Ten. Gomillion was twice named Big Ten Freshman of the Week while Jones twice earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. This was the first season with four weekly honors since Maryland joined the conference.
- The honors continued into the postseason where Jones was named to the First Team All-Big Ten while Gomillion was named to the All-Freshman team.
- Jones led the NCAA with 1.73 blocks per set while Gomillion led the Big Ten with 4.76 digs per set.
Top-five upset
- The season highlight came on September 24, 2021, as the unranked Terps toppled the then-No.2 Wisconsin Badgers.
- After winning the opening set Maryland eventually won in the fifth set to record the program's first-ever Top-Five upset and first-ever victory over Wisconsin.
- Offensively, Maryland was led by Sam Csire with 17 kills and Paula Neciporuka with 15 kills. Defensively, Milan Gomillion had 17 digs and Rainelle Jones had 11 total blocks. Jones was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week following the match.
- The Badgers are currently in the 2021 Final Four.

- Fans were welcomed back to XFINITY Pavilion this season for the first time since the 2019 season and they made their presence known.
- This season featured three of the top-five attendances in XFINITY Pavilion history as the Wicsonsin match, Penn State match, and Ohio State match all drew thousands of fans.
