COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland women's lacrosse head coach
Cathy Reese announced the program's 2022 schedule on Tuesday, which features eight games at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex and seven against teams that finished 2021 in the IWLCA top-25.
"We are really excited to get back to a normal schedule this season and be able to play in front of our fans," said Reese. "Our team has put in a lot of hard work this fall to prepare for this schedule and is looking forward to competing this spring."
The Terps schedule is highlighted by home games at The Plex against No. 4 Northwestern, No. 7 Florida, No. 12 James Madison and No. 14 Rutgers. Maryland will also host Penn, who finished the last season they competed at No. 10 in the IWLCA poll, No. 23 Penn State and face No. 11 Virginia and No. 17 Johns Hopkins on the road.
Maryland opens the season with two games on the road, facing St. Joseph's on February 12 and Virginia on February 16.
The Terps home opener will be against Florida on February 26 before welcoming Delaware three days later on March 1.
After a Saturday road trip to William & Mary on March 5, the Terps will have a four game homestand, welcoming Villanova on March 12, Rutgers to begin Big Ten play on March 19, Penn on March 23 and James Madison on March 26.
Maryland will head to local foes Georgetown on March 30 and Johns Hopkins on April 2 before hosting Penn State on April 7.
The following week will feature trips to Princeton, who finished the last season they competed in at No. 13 in the IWLCA poll, on April 13 and Ohio State on April 17.
The Terps home finale will be against Big Ten rival Northwestern, who Maryland has faced in four out of the last five Big Ten Championships.
Maryland will wrap up the regular season with a trip to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan on April 30.
The Big Ten Tournament will take place from May 6-8 in Piscataway, New Jersey on the campus of Rutgers. The NCAA First and Second Rounds will be hosted at campus sites from May 13-5 and the Quarterfinals will take place on May 21. The Final Four will be hosted at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore from May 27-29.
The Terps return nine-of-12 starters from their 2021 team including IWLCA All-Americans
Grace Griffin and
Hannah Leubecker. Reese also welcomes in the nation's No. 2 ranked freshman class and five transfers, led by All-Americans
Aurora Cordingley (Johns Hopkins) and
Abby Bosco (Penn).
All schedule dates and times are subject to change for television selections which will be announced at a later date.
Season tickets will be on sale in early 2022.
