What You Should Know
- Maryland scored 19 runs, its most runs scored in a game since also scoring 19 vs. James Madison on April 26, 2016.
- The Terps' 19 runs is the most ever scored by Maryland in a Big Ten conference game, and the most in a league game since scoring 21 vs. Pittsburgh on May 9, 2014.
- After scoring 32 runs in a four-game series at home vs. Rutgers the week before, Maryland kept the offense flowing into its opening game vs. Penn State.
- Maryland scored in bunches - putting up a four-spot in the first inning, two in the fourth, three in the fifth, five in the eighth, and five in the ninth.
- Junior shortstop Benjamin Cowles continued his dominant pace, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run, two runs scored, five RBI, and two walks. The Newark, N.Y. native leads the team and the conference with seven homers on the season.
- Chris Alleyne, Matthew Shaw, Randy Bednar, and Tommy Gardiner also contributed multiple hits on the afternoon.
- Senior catcher Justin Vought made his season debut behind the dish after missing the first two weeks of the season.

- Redshirt sophomore right-hander Sean Burke got the start and the no-decision after tossing three and two third innings, allowing four runs while striking out eight.
- Maryland tested five options out of the bullpen, going to Sean Heine, Ryan Ramsey, David Falco, Tyler Blohm, and Sam Bello in the series-opener. Ramsey tossed two innings of quality relief, Blohm earned the win, and Bello earned the save after entering with the tying run on deck in the eighth inning.
- Maryland faces Penn State in game two of the three-game series on Sunday at Medlar Field with first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m. EDT. Sophomore right-hander Connor Staine will get the ball for the Terps, while Connor Larkin will toe the rubber for the Nittany Lions.
