COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The No. 8 Maryland women's lacrosse team swept the weekend series from Ohio State with an 11-5 victory over the Buckeyes on Saturday afternoon.
"Was nice to have another home win in College Park with gorgeous weather today," said head coach
Cathy Reese. "We had some good moments and some not good moments.
Emily Sterling had a great game and
Lizzie Colson was all over the place yet again. Nice to see us making adjustments from game one to game two on the defensive end of the field. Offensively, we need to get better and we'll keep working until we get there."
Hannah Leubecker tallied five goals to add to her team-high total of 28.
Brindi Griffin netted three goals, including one off
Lizzie Colson's first assist of the year. Maryland's other goals came from the sticks of
Grace Griffin,
Libby May and
Hannah Warther. This is Leubecker's third straight game with four-plus goals, scoring 26 goals in the last five games.
Between the pipes,
Emily Sterling made a career-high 12 saves, allowing just five goals, a 70.6 save percentage, including holding Ohio State to just two goals in the first half with nine of her 12 saves.
Colson had yet another impressive all-around game with eight draw controls, four groundballs, two caused turnovers and added her first assist of the season. The redshirt senior now has at least two caused turnovers in every game this season.
Maryland will travel to #3 Northwestern for a pair of games next week, on Saturday and Monday, which will be televised live on Big Ten Network.
