Akli Defeats O'Gorman at Penn State

HAPPY VALLEY, Pa. - The Maryland women's tennis team faced Penn State on Sunday notching a win at the No. 1 spot by No. 89 Ayana Akli, but fell 6-1 overall. Akli moves to 8-2 for the season.

Maryland will face Purdue on Saturday, March 27.

- DOUBLES
- No. 1: Akli and Alexandrova won their match against Gabby O'Gorman and Karly Friedland 6-3
- No. 2: Adela Josefova and Zoe Kulkarni got an early 2-0 lead against Samantha Smith and Frederike Svarre, but ultimately were defeated 6-3
- No. 3: Ebony Sampsona and Minorka Miranda fell to Olivia Ryan and Alexandra Nielsen 6-4 for the Nittany Lions to take the doubles point
- SINGLES
- No.1: No. 89 Akli went three sets with O'Gorman, defeating the senior 3-6, 6-1, 6-0
- No. 2: Alexandrova put up a fight against Svarre, taking the first set 7-5, but was defeated in the following two 5-7, 5-10
- No. 3: Josefova took the first set against Friedland, but the Nittany Lion answered back by taking the second and third 6-3, 3-6, 8-10
- No. 4: Miranda was defeated by Smith 3-6, 0-6
- No. 5: Kulkarni fell to Nielsen 2-6, 2-6
- No. 6: Markovic was defeated by Alina Lebedeva 0-6, 3-6
Maryland will face Purdue on Saturday, March 27.
